What is a Saju Day Master (일간)?

In Korean Saju (사주, Four Pillars of Destiny), your chart is built from four pillars — year, month, day, and hour. Each pillar has a Heavenly Stem (천간) and an Earthly Branch (지지). The Heavenly Stem of your day pillar is called the Day Master (일간) and represents you — the very center of your chart.

There are ten Heavenly Stems, mapped to the Five Elements (오행): Gap and Eul are Wood (목), Byeong and Jeong are Fire (화), Mu and Gi are Earth (토), Gyeong and Sin are Metal (금), and Im and Gye are Water (수). Your Day Master's element shapes your core temperament and the way you move through the world.

How is the Day Master calculated?

The day pillar follows the unbroken 60-갑자 cycle. This calculator derives the day's sexagenary number directly from your birth date and reads off the Heavenly Stem — the same method used in traditional 만세력 almanacs — so the element you see is accurate, not a guess.
