Saju (四柱, Four Pillars) is a classical East Asian destiny analysis system that has been practiced on the Korean peninsula for over a thousand years. Unlike Western astrology, which primarily uses the position of the sun relative to the zodiac at birth, Saju works with four precise units of time — the year, month, day, and hour of birth — each encoded as a pair of characters drawn from the Ten Heavenly Stems and Twelve Earthly Branches.
The result is a grid of eight characters (the Paljja, or Eight Characters) that form a snapshot of the elemental energies present at the moment of your birth. Practitioners interpret the interactions between these characters — their generating, controlling, and clashing relationships — to understand patterns in a person's nature, timing, and life circumstances.
The Cheonmyeongdang reading is structured around the classical Saju interpretation layers used by Korean practitioners:
After completing your payment, you enter your birth date and, if known, your birth time. The system converts your data using the traditional Korean lunar-solar calendar (Manseryeok) to derive each pillar's Stem and Branch pair accurately. The interpretation engine then applies the classical Five Element interaction rules to produce a written analysis.
The entire process takes place in your browser. No account registration is required to receive your reading.
What is included in a Korean birth chart reading?
Your reading covers all four pillars (Year, Month, Day, Hour), the Ten Stems and Twelve Branches within them, your dominant elemental profile, personality traits, life-path tendencies, relationship compatibility patterns, and the current major cycle (Daewoon) and annual cycle (Seyoon) influencing your fortune right now.
How long does it take?
The Cheonmyeongdang reading is generated immediately after you submit your birth information. The full written interpretation appears in your browser at once — there is no waiting period or delivery queue.
What do I need to provide?
You need your exact birth date (year, month, and day) and, if available, your birth time. Birth time determines the Hour Pillar, which represents your inner character and latent potential. If your birth time is not known, the reading will work from the remaining three pillars and will note where the Hour Pillar information is absent.
Is it different from Western astrology?
Saju operates on a fundamentally different framework. Western astrology is primarily solar-based — your sign is defined by the sun's position in the ecliptic during your birth month. Saju is built on the sexagenary cycle, a 60-unit repeating system of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. It captures four distinct time coordinates rather than one, and interprets them through Five Element theory (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) rather than planetary symbolism. The result is a more granular structural map of elemental interactions specific to your exact birth moment.
